An Ode to Grandma. Thank you.

Only a short one today, but it feels extra important seeing as it’s the month to celebrate women, with IWD and also Mother’s Day.

I grew up around strong, capable women, and the one person who always springs to mind is my wonderful grandma and my main inspiration. She was so well-travelled, well-read, creative and archetypal. She was just one of those women, not sure whether it’s a generational thing but who was able to handle anything that came her way but with ease. She was someone who didn’t take life too seriously, she had fun with every serious moment and always came out smiling. The perfect woman in my eyes.

She carried strength so naturally, it just came. It wasn’t loud or in your face, it was steady, relaxing and welcoming. She respected others, but she also deeply respected herself. She was curious about the world, open to new ideas, endlessly creative and quietly confident in who she was and watching her navigate life shaped me more than I probably even realised at the time. I see more of that now, more than ever.

That example has stayed with me, especially with Fox & Bloom and my attitude towards business. It’s where my respect for women comes from, not just admiration, but a genuine belief in what happens when women are supported and given space to thrive, to find themselves and to follow their hearts. It’s driven my passion for collaborating with other women (which you can read a bit more about here) for championing their ideas, for building something that feels collective rather than competitive.

Because the women who raise us, guide us and inspire us don’t just influence who we are personally, and how we show up every day they influence how we show up professionally. And if I can build a business that reflects even a fraction of my grandma’s strength, creativity and generosity of spirit, then I know I’m on the right path and right where I need to be.
